The Encyclopedia Britannica defines F. ScottFitzgerald as an American short-story writer and novelist famous for hisdepictions of the Jazz Age (the 1920s). The famous American writer T. S. Elliotonce said this novel is the first step that American fiction has taken sinceHenry James, because Fitzgerald depicted the extolled grandest and mostboisterous, reckless and merry-making scene. 1.Former studies on Daisy

Amongall these views, most regard her as a victim rather than a convict. Forinstance, Xu Ke (2013) makes a comprehensive analysis of the background, theplot and the character of this novel. In his article, he says Daisy is just avictim of male chauvinism. When Nick tells the story of Gatsby, everyonebelieves Daisy is the one to blame for she ruins Gatsbys American dream. Sheis such a selfish and mean woman that she hurts everyone. However, Nick nevertells the story from Daisys point. Things turn to be different when Daisysfriend, Jordan tells the story. Daisy becomes an independent new woman and whatshe wants is just get rid of the control of her husband and Gatsby. Zhou Xiaowu(2012) holds the similar viewpoint. In his opinion, Daisy is never the girlGatsby wants. Gatsby just wants to change Daisy into someone he likes, but hefails. Hu Tianfu (2006) compares Daisy with other female characters inFitzgeralds novels. He finds Fitzgerald uneasy about this kind of new women.Fitzgerald thinks these women deserve the criticism because they broke thetraditional moral idea.
